    • The whole of Scripture is God's word and it is precious (2 Tim 3:16)
    • We have a responsibility to understand, believe, and apply every word spoken by our Creator and Savior (2 Tim 2:15; Acts 17:11)
    • Pastors have a responsibility to "preach the word" (2 Tim 4:2)
    • The five Solas are a summary statement and safeguard of the precious truths of the biblical Gospel
    • We truly are saved by grace alone (sola gratia), through faith alone (sola fide), in Christ alone (solus Christus), according to Scripture alone (sola Scriptura), all to the glory of God alone (soli Deo gloria)
    • The first and second commandment call us to have the right object of worship, God alone, & the right mode of worship, only the way he has prescribed (Ex 20:3-6; Deut 12:29-32)
    • The Bible outlines three spheres of worship - corporate, family, & private (Heb 10:25; Deut 6:7; Psalm 1:2)
    • Pastors have the particular ministry of equipping the body so that the body may in turn do the work of ministry (Eph 4:11-14)
    • Every member of the church body is critical and so every member has the responsibility to pursue equipping and to in turn use their equipping for the sake of others (Rom 12:4-8)
    • A love of God and a love of neighbor should compel us to declare the glorious work of God in the Gospel to those on their way to hell (Mat 22:36-40)
    • We have been commanded to make disciples of all nations (Mat 28:19)
    • Because we have been saved wholly by the work of God and because the Spirit is working in the Christian to conform us into the image of Christ, we desire to pursue obedience to God so that we may grow in doing what we were created for - to glorify God and enjoy him forever (Phil 2:12-3; Rom 8:29, cf Gen 1:27)
    • God has given the responsibility to pastors (elders, overseers) and equipped them to watch over the flock of God (Acts 20:28; 1 Pet 5:2; Eph 4:8-11)
    • This oversight is seen particularly in the administration of preaching, teaching, ordinances, & church discipline (1 Tim 3:2; 2 Tim 4:2; Mat 18:15-20; 1 Cor 5:1-13)
    • Pastors are to exercise this oversight as those who will give an account before God (Heb 13:17)
    • All that we have is from God, through God, and to God (Rom 11:36)
    • As such, we should use all that we have (our time, resources, abilities) to his glory and for the good of his Church (Gal 6:10)
    • Our God is a God of excellence, as image bearers of God we want to reflect him in what we do
    • Ultimately, all of our work is service to the Lord, as such we want to do our work heartily (Col 3:23)
    • It is wise to do our work skillfully (Pro 22:29)
